The subject of renting with pets was thrust into the spotlight late last year, when Romford MP Andrew Rosindell introduced his private member’s bill, dubbed Jasmine’s Law, with the aim of banning No Pets clauses in rental contracts. 2nd September 2021 : a truly momentous date in AdvoCATS’ history, as we took on the Government and launched our Heads for Tails! report and campaign to make renting with pets fairer for ALL. Backed by some 37 MPs and Peers, and endorsed by 31 organisations across the animal welfare and private rented sectors, Heads for Tails! calls for a simple change to the Tenant Fees Act 2019 to open up the rental market to tenants with pets. -

This week Anna is joined by PC Colin Nash and his PD (Police Dog) Elvis. As the proud winners of the Rising Star Award at the inaugural Thin Blue Paw Awards, two year old Elvis is not Colin’s first PD, but he is his first Labrador. It’s perhaps no surprise that Elvis is excelling at being a passive and proactive detection dog. He was bred by the Metropolitan Police before joining the City of London Police Dog Unit. -

This week Anna is joined by Beverley Cuddy who amongst other dog-centric roles, is one of the Patrons of SAMPA - the Stolen and Missing Pets Alliance. They chat about the great news that government are introducing new legislation - the Pet Abduction Law to make penalties for dog theft in line with the crime.With specific legislation that recognises that dogs are clearly not ‘property’ or chattel with consequences of up to seven years in prison for ‘abducting’ a dog. The hope is that dog theft will decrease. -

In the spirt of all that is good in the world of dogs our finalists chose to split the £10k prize.
